I have always been fascinated by these home delivery subscription food boxes, so to kick off 2021, I decided to try one of the most popular ones called Daily Harvest.
Daily Harvest has a variety of soups, oat bowls, smoothies, flatbreads, chia bowls, harvest bowls, scoops, bites and lattes. The website says that all ingredients are organic for better flavor and nutrients and are sourced from local farms. I decided on the Sweet Potato + Miso Soup ($7.99), Mint + Cacao Smoothie ($7.99), Ginger + Greens Smoothie ($7.99), Acai + Cherry ($7.99), Pumpkin + Chai Oat Bowl ($5.99), Apple + Cinnamon Oat Bowl ($5.99), Ginger + Turmeric Lattes 3 Pods ($7.99), Coffee + Almond Lattes 3 Pods ($7.99) and the Pear + Arugula Flatbread ($8.99).
I used a promo code for $25 through a millennial vlogger who I absolutely love named Monica Church, so thank you Monica! I ended up choosing the 9-box plan that is usually about $63, but because I had the code, I ended up only paying $38 the first time. It came packed with dry ice, so all meals were still very cold when I took them out of the box!
Note: I used a Ninja Blender that I found stacked way in the back of one of my cabinets when I was going through my apartment recently. I never knew I had it or where it came from, LOL!
Sweet Potato + Miso Soup
This soup has sweet potato, white miso, coconut, jalapeño, dulse and reishi. The website says that it tastes like “umami-rich sweet potato soup.” It is only 260 calories and I had to add 1 cup of warm water to the blender along with the ingredients.
Review: Yup, it definitely tastes like a miso sweet potato soup with a kick of spice in it. It actually tasted really good but I got sick of it about halfway through. I am not sure why, maybe because of the heat flavor? Also, you have to put this in the microwave for 4 to 6 minutes after you blend it because the texture comes out like a smoothie (as you can see from above). I am somewhat torn on this one, you guys!

Mint + Cacao Smoothie
This smoothie has banana, spinach, cacao, cashew, peppermint and chlorella. The website says that it tastes like “mint chip ice cream.” It is only 250 calories and you fill the blender with any liquid of your choice (they recommended water or coconut water) and blend until smooth.
Review: If you like mint, which I do, then you will love this smoothie. It has a lot of cashew and cacao bits bits, so it will be slightly chewy! As much as I loved the flavor and the description was accurate, the thing that threw me off was the chlorella. I could really pick up on it and I think if that ingredient wasn’t added, I would’ve given it a higher rating.

Ginger + Greens Smoothie
This smoothie has banana, spinach, avocado, ginger, lemon and flaxseed. The website says that it tastes like “ginger-y green juice.” It is only 190 calories and you fill the blender with any liquid of your choice (they recommended water or coconut water) and blend until smooth.
Review: This is an amazing smoothie! I chose this one the first night I got my subscription box because I hadn’t eaten my greens for the day. The biggest ingredient I could taste was the ginger, which I love because ginger is very good for the stomach. So if you’re a ginger lover, this smoothie is for you!
Rating: 5/5
Acai + Cherry Smoothie
This smoothie has cherry, blueberry, banana, raspberry, acai and kale. The website says that it’s supposed to taste like a “berry acai bowl.” It is only 140 calories and you fill the blender with any liquid of your choice (they recommended water or coconut water) and blend until smooth.
Review: This was my least favorite smoothie out of the three that I ordered. Not that it was terrible tasting, but that it seemed too watered down with not enough berry flavor. The only berry I could pick up was the cherry on certain sips and the acai slightly.

Pumpkin + Chai Oat Bowl
This oat bowl has pumpkin, oats, sultana raisin, pecan, cinnamon and nutmeg. The website says that it tastes like “pumpkin spice bread” It is 350 calories and you add a half cup of milk or water and prepare in a pot on the stove or as overnight oats.
Review: The description is definitely accurate and there is a huge pumpkin and nutmeg flavor. The raisin also brought out a lot of the dish. I chose to eat it hot and heated it in the microwave for 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Overall, not too shabby!
Rating: 4/5
Apple + Cinnamon Oat Bowl
This oat bowl has oats, apple, cauliflower, walnut, pumpkin seed and cinnamon. The website says that it tastes like “apple crumble.” It is 310 calories and you add a half cup of milk or water and prepare in a pot on the stove or as overnight oats.
Review: I added water to mine. It said to use a half cup, but I thought I might need just a teeny bit more and it got a bit too soupy, LOL! It still tasted great though! I love the green apple, cinnamon and walnut flavors and the description was spot on. I also had to put it in the microwave for 3 minutes and not 2 minutes as instructed because it was still a bit cold.

Ginger + Turmeric Lattes
This latte has coconut, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, galangal and cardamon. The website says that it tastes like “golden milk.” It is 80 calories and you run hot water over the pod and add to the blender with the ingredients and milk if desired. You can also prepare it over the stovetop and chill in the fridge if you want it cold.
Review: This is amazing! It has a huge turmeric and ginger flavor, two of my favorite ingredients in drinks! Turmeric also helps with inflammation and joint pain, something I need from time-to-time since I am working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. I need to add coffee to it next time so I can have a Dirty Golden Milk.

Coffee + Almonds Lattes
This latte has almond, murasaki sweet potato, ashwagandha and cordyceps. The website says that it tastes like a “classic almond milk latte.” It is 90 calories and you run hot water over the pod and add to a mug with the ingredients and milk if desired. You can also prepare it over the stovetop and chill in the fridge if you want it cold.
Review: I liked the Ginger + Turmeric Latte better than this latte amazingly, even when I added sweetener to it. The description is spot on, but I think it was the cordyceps (mushrooms) that threw me off. It was fine at first, but from the second sip on, I wasn’t a huge fan.
Rating: 3/5
Pear + Arugula Flatbread
This flatbread has sweet potato, pear, arugula, pecan, hemp seed and white wine vinegar. The website says it tastes like a “caramelized pear and ricotta.” It is 450 calories and you prepare it in the oven at 450 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
Review: This is the only flatbread I had an interest in trying because I love pear. The description, again, was accurate and I like how there were pecans added to give it an extra crunch and kick to it.

Final Thoughts
Although the meals were nutritious, yummy and healthy, I probably won’t be renewing my subscription because I just don’t think it’s worth spending around $63 a week for a small amount of food. I also really wasn’t into trying every single thing on the Daily Harvest website and only liked a few things that would fit into my box, so it worked out for me. The dishes also work better as side dishes than a full meal and they all tasted amazing for the most part!
If you guys try it out, let me know what you think! 🙂
