Hidden deep in the San Gabriel Mountains sits one Hidden deep in the San Gabriel Mountains sits one of LA’s most unexpected landmarks: Brown Mountain Dam 🌲💧

Built in 1943 after the devastating floods of 1938, the dam was designed to control floodwaters rushing through the Arroyo Seco💧

But over time, sediment completely filled the reservoir behind it, leaving behind this massive concrete wall and waterfall hidden in the forest 🪨🌲

Today, it’s become a popular hiking destination known for its canyon views, swimming holes and surreal scenery that feels worlds away from Los Angeles 🌴

Would you hike to this hidden spot? 👀

Before theme parks and viral attractions, @cityofe Before theme parks and viral attractions, @cityofelmonte was home to one of the strangest tourist destinations in America: Gay’s Lion Farm 🦁

Opened in 1924 by Charles Gay and his wife, the farm began as a breeding and training facility for lions used in Hollywood films during the silent movie era. At its peak, more than 200 lions lived there just outside Los Angeles 🦁🎥

The farm quickly became internationally famous. Visitors paid 25 cents to watch feeding demonstrations, pose with lion cubs and see giant cats up close 👀

Celebrities, movie stars and even Fist Lady Eleanor Roosevelt visited the attraction during its heyday ✨

One of the farm’s most famous residents was Jackie the Lion, a Hollywood animal actor who appeared in over 100 films. Lions connected to the farm were also tied to @amazonmgmstudios iconic roaring mascot 🦁🎬

In 1941, during the start of World War II, the farm closed after wartime meat shortages made it impossible to feed so many animals. The lions were relocated to zoos and circuses across the country 🎪

Today, almost nothing remains of the original property. But for nearly two decades, El Monte was known as the place where hundreds of lions roared just outside the city 🐾

If you want to visit, it’s at the intersection of Peck Rd and Valley Blvd! I recommend parking across the street at New Asia FSE 🚗

Today I attended the @altadenapoppyfestival ! 🙌🏻🧡 Today I attended the @altadenapoppyfestival ! 🙌🏻🧡

The goal of the festival was to support local small businesses and celebrate the blooming poppies! 🌱

It was hosted by @greataltadenapoppyproject and the @pasadenajaycees ✨

To date, more than 10,000 seed packets have been distributed to local residents as they continue to rebuild 🏡

That’s more than 250 million poppy seeds on 750 fire-impacted properties! 😳🧡
